Summer Holiday Ideas

We begin with Sri Lanka. The unexplored north, the cultural triangle in the centre, and pristine east coast beaches as showcased in our "Buddhism & Beaches" itinerary, will all provide plenty of sunshine. A tour combining some or all these destinations will provide plenty of variety, and there is a good selection of accommodation along every step of the way.

For wildlife enthusiasts, Borneo is also at its best and our popular "Jewels of Sabah" offers a great introduction to this jungle clad island, bookending some adventure with time relaxing on the beaches of Gaya Island. If you are looking to maximise your experience and stay in the very best lodges, such as the staggering Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley, we encourage booking as early as possible - these lodges are fully booked months in advance!

Indonesia also has an excellent climate during our summer months. Indonesia is a huge destination with an infinite variety of appeal, but for families we would particularly recommend an action-packed exploration of Java & Bali, or those on honeymoon might well relish the combination of adventure and relaxation on offer in Bali & Lombok.

Indochina is not known for having the best weather at this time of year, but this is not the case in Central Vietnam. Hoi An offers a particularly fine mix of beach and charming ancient city, and can also be used as a base to explore the Cham Islands, the former DMZ, or the historical capital Hue. This part of Vietnam is also connected via a direct flight to the temples of Angkor in Cambodia's Siem Reap - the two combine very well for summer trips.

Finally, it might not be the first place you think of, but for a truly memorable family summer holiday, Mongolia is a real gem. June to September is the best time of the year to travel through Mongolia’s endless, breath-taking and ever-changing landscape and learn about their fascinating nomadic culture.
