Covering an area of 18 square kilometers, the emerald blue Lake Batur is the island's largest crater lake and revered as a spiritual site by local people. Located near Bali's north coast in a vast caldera under the shadows of the active Mount Batur, the area has several small villages that rely on farming the rich volcanic soils and nutrient rich waters of the Lake.

The area is an outdoor-lovers paradise, and ideal for trekking and cycling to explore the rural villages, soak the hot springs and enjoy stunning view of the lakes and mountains. The temple of Pura Ulun stands on rim of the caldera, one of 9 directional temples in Bali, and dedicated to the Goddess of the Lake who is the deity of Bali's water supply.
