Vat Phou Cruise

The Vat Phou has twelve cabins, each with twin beds and private hot & cold running water bathrooms. It also has a shaded upper deck for lounging and a restaurant that serves the finest Lao, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. A perfect way to explore a stunning part of southern Laos in comfort and style.

The 2 night cruise starts and finishes in Pakse. You will meet your fellow travellers in central Pakse and then be transferred by long-tail boat to the Vat Phou, a journey of 2-3 hours. Board the cruise and settle into your cabin before lunch is served on deck. The first afternoon will be taken up by visiting the spectacular Wat Phou Ruins – the majestic pre-Angkorian 10th century temple complex and your boat’s namesake. You have time to visit the museum at the ruin site, walk up to the highest temple and take as many photos as you would like. As dusk falls, transfer back to the Vat Phou for a chance to enjoy the tropical sunset on the deck. Dinner is served on board, while the boat docks for the night alongside a remote Laotian village.

The second morning takes you to the cillage of Tomo, a  small village a few minutes walk away from the mysterious hidden forest temple of Oum Muong. Return to the cruise for lunch and journey further downstream towards the 4000 Islands. Late afternoon disembark from the boat to walk through Ban Deua Tia, a small Laotian village where the traditional way of life has not changed in centuries. You will have a chance to visit the local school and share some time with the students. The day’s cruise finishes at the most northern tip of Don Khong, the largest inhabited island in the river archipelago. After dinner, the evening is yours to relax and enjoy dinner on-board.

The third & final day begins at the small village of Ban Veuthong, where you board a small boat to meander among the 4,000 Islands to Khone Island. You will visit the old French railway, the French colonial house and walk across the bridge that links Khone and Det Islands. Enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant on Don Khone Island along the banks of the river. This afternoon you will visit the Khone PhaPheng Waterfalls, the “Niagara of the East”. After your visit to Phapheng Waterfall you will be transferred back to Pakse by bus where the tour will end.

Please note that the Vat Phou Cruise also operates this above itinerary in the reverse direction. The cruise itinerary is subject to alteration dependent on sailing conditions.
