The Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion)

The Blue Mansion (also known as Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion) was built at the end of the 19th century by the powerful Chinese tycoon, Cheong Fatt Tze. It is a traditional Chinese courtyard-style house, but also built to embrace the glory of the British Empire at the time within the Malay world. Today it makes a fascinating place to stay for a few days, with a style all of its own and 18 well-appointed bedrooms, grouped around 5 airy tropical courtyards. Each bedroom is unique and has a private bathroom and air conditioning. The Mansions communal facilities include a reading room, a TV room and 2 archive rooms containing information about the history of the house and the surrounding area. Located close to the centre of Georgetown, the Blue Mansion provides a convenient and atmospheric base from which to explore Penang, ‘the Pearl of the Orient'.
