Kunming - Yunnan Province
Called the Spring City due to its wonderful climate, Kunming is one of China’s most pleasant big cities. The capital of Yunnan sits at 2,000 metres above sea level off the northern shore of Dian Chi, the province's largest lake. Most people just pass through on their way into or out of Yunnan, but if you spend a little time here you will find ancient temples, delightful parks offering typically Chinese entertainment, and the Old Quarter with its historic Flower & Bird Market. A couple of hours drive from Kunming is the Stone Forest, a collection of petrified rocks that have formed unusual shapes and are now set in landscaped gardens. Kunming provides a good starting point for those wishing to explore Yunnan and has good flight access from most major cities in Asia.
