Highlights of Polar Regions

Once the preserve of explorers, the polar regions are becoming increasingly accessible for anyone wanting to come face to face with a polar bear, revel in midnight sun, ice break alongside whales or dog sled under the auroras. To follow in Shakleton’s footsteps you can board an expedition ship in Antarctica taking you to vast uninhabited areas of the far south where you will encounter nothing else but exotic wildlife, jagged icebergs, and dazzling panoramas like nowhere else on earth. The sparsely populated north polar region covers large areas of the Nordic countries, Greenland and north America and is home to over 40 ethnic groups of indigenous nomads that have survived in these inhospitable regions for millennia. Many places of interest within the Arctic Circle are accessible by flight from the UK and can be explored on land, or in the relative comfort of an expedition cruise.
