Set in a steep sided valley of exceptional beauty 120km northeast of Lhasa, Tidrum is home to a small nunnery with a long history dating back to Yeshe Tsogyal, one time associate of Guru Rinpoche. The area has a number of monasteries and rural villages where traditional Tibetan lifestyles have changed little in centuries. One of the main attractions to the area are the crystal clear hot springs with water containing therapeutic minerals including carbon, sulphur and limestone. With the recent addition of a comfortable Tibetan style boutique hotel with its own hot springs, Tidrum is a relaxing stopping point on a round trip of the region north east of Lhasa, and a good base for short walks in rural Tibet.
