Dera Amer is an isolated tented camp which is located in the quiet hills north of Jaipur, not far from the famous Amber Fort. The surroundings are peaceful and pastoral, with just a few rural hamlets in the immediate vicinity. The camp is run by a local Rajput family, and consists of up to six spacious safari tents pitched around an open grassy plain. This is an outdoor experience so accommodation is rustic, but the tents are well-equipped with proper beds and linen, electric lighting, ample storage space, heaters or fan coolers (depending on time of year), and attached ensuite bathrooms. All meals are included in the stay, with dinners around the bonfire a particular highlight. Elephant walks, and also camel safaris, are taken into the surrounding hills, visiting peaceful hamlets and learning more about way of life in a rural Rajasthan environment.
