Kabini is a popular wildlife destination in the heart of the Western Ghats, found on the very cusp of Karnataka's border with Kerala. Naturally blessed with verdant jungles and expansive watering holes, the area around the Kabini River attracts a rich variety of wildlife. This is a fine base for trips into Nagarhole National Park, itself part of a larger complex of reserves which includes the neighbouring sanctuaries of Bandipur in Karnataka, Madumalai in Tamil Nadu, and Wayanad in Kerala. The park is 650 sq km in area, mostly consisting of tall and dense deciduous forests, the upper canopy of which reaches heights of 30m.
