Nusa Penida is a very rugged, very isolated island escape just off the southern coast of Bali. Compared to the main island, and even compared to its smaller, more popular neighbour Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida sees barely a trickle of visitors.

Amenities on the island are very few: one medium-grade hotel and a handful of much more basic accommodation, very limited places to eat, and little in the way of modern creature comforts such as ATMs and WiFi. The pay-off however is some of the finest unspoilt diving and snorkelling in Bali, and also some exhilirating treks in its interior forests or along its dramatic cliff-top coastline.
