Labuan Bajo is a coastal town and fishing port located on the far west of Flores, and the main jumping off point for the Komodo Islands National Park. The town is surrounded by water, and is blessed with soothing views of offshore island and blazing sunsets over the sea. Fishing, palm oil and tourism are the main industries in this backwater of Indonesia where living standards are well below the more developed areas of the country. There are a number of comfortable hotels in town, and the main street lined with some laid back cafes, bars and restaurants can easily be explored on foot. For time at leisure there are several beaches dotted around town to explore, whilst further inland there are waterfalls, caves and forests that can be visited on day trips.
