Linked to Honshu by the 13km long Seto Ohashi Bridge, Takamatsu is a port dating from the 16th Century and a good stopping off point before deeper explorations of Shikoku. The most notable attraction in Takamatsu is the Ritsurin Gardens, regarded as one of Japan’s finest, dating from the 17th Century and taking almost a century to complete. These delightful Edo-style gardens are a great place for a peaceful stroll, featuring several ponds with arched bridges, small wooded hillsides and atmospheric tea rooms with great views.
