When to visit - Mauritius
Best times to visit Mauritius
The best time for beach holidays on all of Mauritius’s coastline is between September and December when the air temperatures are warm, skies are predominantly clear, and the trade winds are light. The month of October is an especially good time to visit, the latter half of which coincides with the half term holiday for families.
In November and December there is the least amount of wind which makes the sea calm, and conditions for many water activities including diving and snorkelling are at their best. The cooling effect the trade winds make the south and east coasts a good choice during the hottest months of November and December.
May is the best month of the year to visit Mauritius to catch the tail end of the warmth and avoid the crowds of the peak months. Hotel rates also tend to be lower, so we think May is an excellent time to visit Mauritius.
Good times to visit Mauritius
March and April are good months to travel to Mauritius for warm weather and calm seas, but humidity is high and there is a risk of occasional showers in the afternoon. It is worth bearing in mind that in these two months the north and west coasts are hotter but receive less rainfall, whilst the south and east of the island are more showery but less humid, which may influence your choice of hotel.
From June until August the trade winds become stronger and cooler from the south and east, which make the north and west coasts more popular for those looking to spend a prolonged amount of time on the beach and enjoy al fresco activities in the evening. These are also the driest months of the year in Mauritius, which mean less mosquitos and the best conditions for activities and exploring the inland region.
Mauritius's Green Season
There is a small risk of cyclones affecting the weather in Mauritius during January and February, which make these two months a quieter time of the year for holidays in Mauritius. However the air temperature is warm during this time, and most mornings are sunny, so there are certainly benefits in travelling to Mauritius during their green season.
