Siargao, in the Philippines' southern province of Surigao Del Norte, is an idyllic tropical island which has thus far escaped mass development. As such, it has retained a low-key and laidback Robinson Crusoe-esque vibe, with sparsely-populated white-sand beaches, crystal clear water, and little in the way of beach bars, tourist shops, or international restaurants. Those who make the journey down here (only accessible by domestic flight) will find a small selection of upscale resorts, including the exceptional Nay Palad Hideaway, but little in the way of other tourist infrastructure - all part of the appeal! Siargao is renowned as the Philippine's leading surfing destination, with excellent waves year-round, so this is a fine place to pick up a board! Tours of surrounding islands, fishing trips, and diving, can also be arranged through your resort.
