Shahpura Bagh is a century-old Rajput family property, located in the charming village of the same name. The Bagh is showing signs of age in places, but it remains a breathlessly romantic character property: the two residences (one for guests, one for the family) are filled with memorabilia as well as many original fittings and furnishings. The two buildings are surrounded by low trees and cultivated fields, with guest quarters backed by a large, tempting pool area. A sunset trip up to the family fort – led by jeep, accompanied perhaps by a bottle of wine – is as fine a way to end any day, returning to the Bagh for a dinner of hearty home-cooked Rajasthani fare.
