Jeju City is the provincial capital of Jeju Island, and also where you will find the airport – thus all visitors will be passing through here. There are two rather different faces to the city: the older downtown area has some character and plenty of bars, restaurants, and shopping; while modern Shin-Jeju – between the city and the airport - is a new, shiny, and fairly homogenous Korean-style development with a wider selection of accommodation. Both areas are compact and easily traversed on foot, and both have good amenities and access to wider public transport links. Jeju’s main sights, such as Yongduam Park, Halla Arboretum, and the Jeju Stone Park, are within easy reach wherever you stay in the city.
