Family Tour of Bali (16 days)
Discover the “Island of the Gods” on this varied tour, which includes plenty of time relaxing at a selection of beachfront resorts. Your trip starts at the seaside town of Sanur for some days to relax on a long stretch of beach with shallow waters, with its selection of local restaurants and shops. Once rested, start your Balinese adventures by heading north to a family-friendly eco resort on the western coast, and visit a turtle conservation project. Continue your journey up the coast to the West Bali National Park located on the northern tip of the island, where a range of family-friendly activities are on offer including kayaking, snorkelling, nature hikes and horse riding. Loop inland, and through the volcanic terrain of central Bali to the town of Ubud, a thriving town of artisans surrounded by lush paddy fields. After a day learning some local arts and crafts, return to the south coast for a final few nights’ relaxing at a family-friendly resort located on a quiet beach near the airport.

Road journey from Sanur to Pekutatan, via Tanah Lot: Set off by road in a northerly direction towards Pekutatan on Bali's west coast. En route you will have the chance to visit one of Bali's most important and famous temples, Tanah Lot. Built on a small island on the west coast this 16th century Hindhu temple occupies an idyllic setting, as the sky frames the temple roof with the waves crashing onto the rocks below. Continue north to your beachside hotel in the district of Pekutatan. The total drive time today is around 2 hours, traffic permitting.

Road journey to Menjangan, via Kurma Asih Turtle Project: After breakfast this morning, head west along the coast, with an optional stop at the holy temple of Rambut Siwi, renowned in Bali for its outstanding location overlooking the sea and surrounded by rice fields. Continue to the fishing village of Perancak, where the Kurma Asih turtle conservation project was founded in 1997 by a group of Balinese fishermen from west Bali who became aware of the endangered status of the sea turtle population. Trained by the WWF in relocation and conservation methods, the group began educating the locals in conservation and active protection. On your visit to the conservation centre you will see the turtle eggs found on the beach kept in a nursery to hatch. Once the baby turtles have hatched they are kept for two weeks before being released into the sea, to ensure the turtles are strong and healthy enough to survive by themselves. After some time at the conservation centre take a short stroll around the Perancak estuary to see the brightly-coloured Buggis fishing boats, which date from the Arabic conquest. Continue your journey to in a north-westerly direction to the Pemuteran area, with the option of a visit to the traditional market in the village of Negara en route. The total time driving today is approximately 2-3 hours.

Road journey from Pemuteran to Ubud with sightseeing en route: After breakfast this morning, set off on the fascinating journey to Ubud, passing through the heart of Bali. The first stop will be made at the traditional mountain village of Munduk to visit clove, coffee plantations and enjoy the stunning views. Continue the journey past the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. The next stop is Bedugul to visit Lake Bratan and the atmospheric temple of Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. Further stops are possible at the village of Candi Kuning village before having lunch at the beautiful rice terraces of Jatiluwih. Continue to Ubud and check in to your hotel.

Arts & Crafts at Pondok Pekak: Today you will have a family-focussed art and craft course at the Pondok Pekak Centre, a relaxed venue in the heart of Ubud promoting traditional Balinese arts and culture. Originally set up as a library for expats, Pondok Pekak has evolved into a community centre offering a variety of classes which include Balinese music and dance, gamelan (traditional instrument), mask-making, wood carving and Indonesian language classes. Please note that advance notice is required to participate in classes, and parents are recommended to join the same class as their children. After your class you will have time to wander around Ubud’s central market, and visit the Puri Saren Palace which was the regional seat of power in the 19th Century.

Road journey from Ubud to Balangan Beach: At a convenient time today, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Balangan Beach in south Bali, a drive of around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions.
