Machiya Azuki-an

A ‘Machiya’ is a traditional wooden townhouse, found throughout Japan, but best displayed in the ancient capital of Kyoto. In Kyoto there are a number of Machiya’s that we can rent out for your private use and they are a great option if you are travelling in a family or party of 4 or more. Machiya accommodation is self-catering so it is very different to staying in a hotel and for the more independent minded travellers will be a very enjoyable experience.

The Azuki-an is a lovingly restored 120 year old machiya split over 2 stories. With 2 bedrooms (one western style bed, one Japanese style bed), a dining area and kitchen, a bathroom and separate lavatory, it works very well for a group of 3 or 4 travelling together. Wi-Fi is available and it also has its own small Japanese style garden. Azuki-an is in the heart of Gion, a fantastic location for exploring on foot.

Our Opinion

A really fun experience for families or groups of 3 or 4 people travelling together and happy to cater for themselves.
