Best times to visit Papua New Guinea
The best time to visit Papua New Guinea is between the months of May and October when visitors enjoy pleasant temperatures, clear blue skies and low levels of humidity. During these months rainfall is at its lowest and average daily temperatures will be in the low 30s (Celsius). However temperatures may be lower in the highland regions due to the relative altitude.
Good times to visit Papua New Guinea
The shoulder season period of November through to early December is also a good time to visit Papua New Guinea. However as mid-December signals the start of the green season you may well receive the odd tropical downpour at this time.
Papua New Guinea's Green Season
Papua New Guinea's green season runs between December and April and during these months the country benefits from a pronouced monsoon with rainfall often surpassing 500mm. At this time some lodges may close, the infrastructure can take a battering from the storms that pass through, roads can be washed away and there may be landslides in the mountainous regions. As a result we don't recommend travel to PNG during this period as travel itineraries can easily be disrupted due to the effects of heavy rain and / or windy conditions.
