Guided tour of Muscat: Today you will be taken on a guided tour to see some of Muscat’s highlights including the Opera House, Al Alam Palace, Jalali & Mirani Forts Seeb Souq, where you can take pictures of local fishermen selling their catches and the famous Mutrah Souq. Return to your hotel in the early afternoon to relax by the pool or explore further independently.

Road journey to Jebel Akhdar: After breakfast, you will be met at your hotel by your driver, who will transfer you south, inland, towards the Western Al Hajar Mountains. Provided the weather conditions allow it, your route this morning will take you through Wadi Bani Auf on one of the most spectacular off-road drives in Oman. Your 4x4 vehicle will meander carefully along dramatic, rough and at times steep track with regular stops to take in the breath-taking scenery. The journey from Muscat to Wadi Bani Auf is around 150km and will take you approximately 2 hours and from there, the onward ‘off-road’ trip will take you a further 1-2 hours. Depending on stops today, you should arrive at your hotel in the mid-afternoon to check-in and relax.

Morning three villages walk: This morning you will be met at the hotel by a local guide and set off on a walk through the breath-taking scenery. On the walk you will stop at three separate mountain villages (Al Aqr, Al Qyn and Ash Shirayjah) and learn about the local culture. You will be shown their ancient ‘falaj’ water irrigation system which is vital to the life of the farms that hang from the cliffs in terraces. At the end of the walk, you will be served a delicious lunch of local Omani food at a village house before transferring back to your hotel by road. The walk today should take you around three hours and whilst if you have a reasonable level of fitness it should be manageable, there are some steep and rugged sections of path.

Road journey to Wahiba Sands, via Wadi Bani Khalid: After breakfast, check out of your hotel and head down the mountains towards the Wahiba Sands desert in the eastern side of Oman. En route you can stop to visit Wadi Bani Khalid, a well-known wadi which maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year and is great for a refreshing swim. The journey from Jebel Akhdar to Wadi Bani Khalid is around 300km and should take you around 5 hours, with refreshment stops. After visiting the wadi, continue for another hour until you reach your desert camp in Wahiba Sands.

Afternoon desert activities: After settling into the camp, you will be served lunch before having the opportunity to do some desert activities such as light dune-bashing in a 4x4, hiking and camel riding. As the light draws in, you will be treated to a romantic sunset over the dunes before enjoying a local dinner. After dinner, be sure to look up at the nights sky and see how many stars you can count!

Sunrise on the dunes: This morning you have the option of rising early and heading up to the top of a nearby sand dune to enjoy a memorable desert sunrise.

Road journey to Muscat: If you have risen early to witness the sunrise, return to the camp to freshen up and enjoy breakfast before meeting your driver and setting off on the road journey back to Muscat, where you will check-in to your beach hotel and relax for the rest of the day. Your road journey today is approximately 250km and, depending on traffic and road conditions, the driving time should be around three hours.

Private dolphin watching & snorkelling cruise:  This morning you will be taken on a private cruise to explore Oman’s vibrant underwater life. You will begin the morning looking for dolphins before mooring up in the bay next to the village of Bandar Khiran. Here is a great place to do some snorkelling. Unlimited water and soft drinks are included on your cruise and after snorkelling, you return to your hotel in the late morning.
