This indulgent 13-day takes you to four of Sri Lanka’s top luxury hotels in four stunning locations, travelling by private chartered flights, the quickest and most exclusive way to get around Sri Lanka. Your first stop will be the beautiful Ulagalla Resort, a great base from which to explore the ancient city of Anuradhapura and nearby Mihintale and relax into rural Sri Lankan life. From there, take your private air taxi down to Hatton, in the heart of the hill country and enjoy three days in a luxurious tea planters’ bungalow, walking on some of the local tea trails or simply relaxing in style. Another short hop will take you down to the south coast and a fabulous beach resort right on the edge of Yala National Park, where you will do two safari drives to see the parks abundant local wildlife, including the Sri Lankan Leopard. Travel west along the coast to your final stop, a sumptuous luxury escape in a spectacular cliff-top setting overlooking the Indian Ocean. From here it is a short drive to explore the delights of the old Dutch fort at Galle. Flight: UL504 London Heathrow - Colombo 21.15 - 13.20 (overnight)
Private charter flight to Anuradhapura: After passing through immigration and collecting your luggage, you will be welcomed to Sri Lanka by our representative and taken to board your private chartered flight to Anuradhapura. The flight should take around 45 minutes and on arrival, you will be met by a representative from Ulagalla and transferred to the hotel around 20km away. On arrival, check-in and relax for the rest of the day.

Day at leisure: Today is at leisure to enjoy your fabulous hotel. Guests can easily spend a day pottering around the hotel grounds and neighbouring lake. Bike hire is complimentary and other activities, such as horse riding and rice farming, can be arranged on the day.

Guided tour to Anuradhapura & Mihintale: After breakfast, drive about 40 minutes north to visit the sacred ancient city of Anuradhapura. Founded in the 4th century B.C., Anuradhapura has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982. It has the largest number of ancient monuments of the great Sinhala civilization which has flourished in Sri Lanka. You will see some of the most famous as well as the tallest Dagobas of Sri Lanka, Ruwanweliseya Dagoba, built in the 2nd century BC and famous for its elephant walls and the Thuparama Dagoba, built in the 3rd century. The ‘Sri Maha Bodhi' or the sacred Bo tree at the heart of Anuradhapura is over 2200 years old and reputed to have grown from a branch of the very tree under which "The Buddha" attained enlightenment - making it the oldest historically documented tree in the world.
Later this morning, visit the ancient remains of Mihintale, a sacred place which is regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The rock is dotted with shrines and rock dwellings. A grand stairway of 1840 steps made of granite slabs, 5 meters wide leads to the summit with its splendid views of the surrounding countryside. Please be aware that a good level of fitness is required to reach the summit and some of the viewpoints when you get there are up further flights of steep and narrow steps.
After exploring Mihintale, return to your hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Private charter flight to Castlereagh Resevoir: After breakfast you will be transferred back to the airport at Anuradhapura to board your private charter flight to Castlereagh Resevoir, just outside Hatton, in the heart of the hill country. The flight should take no more than an hour and on arrival, you will be met by representatives from Tea Trails, who will transfer you to your nearby bungalow to check-in and relax in your luxurious surroundings.

Days at leisure: These days are at leisure to enjoy your stunning surroundings. There are many scenic walks and hikes that can be taken through the rolling tea plantations or you might like to take a stroll with the Tea Trails resident tea planter who will teach you about the tea making process. Complimentary mountain bikes are provided and all the bungalows also have their own croquet lawns, no better way to spend a relaxing afternoon. Your stay at Tea Trails is on an all-inclusive basis with all meals, drinks and activities included.

Private charter flight to Yala National Park: After breakfast you will be transferred back to Castlereagh Resevoir to board your private charter flight to Weerawila, near the south coast. The flight should take no more than an hour and on arrival, you will be met by representatives from Chena Huts, who will transfer you to your luxurious beach hotel to check-in and relax before heading off on an afternoon game drive.
There is also sometimes a shared scheduled flight which operates on this route and can be significantly cheaper than the private charter. This can be discussed with your consultant at the time of enquiry.
Afternoon safari in the Yala National Park: Later this afternoon you will be taken on a safari tour of the Yala National Park in an open-air jeep. Yala is the most famous park in Sri Lanka and boasts one of the most abundant and accessible wildlife populations in Asia. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, deer, wild boar, wild buffaloes, monkeys, sloth-bears, crocodiles and leopards, as well as a huge variety of exciting birdlife. Return to you hotel in the early evening to enjoy a delicious dinner.
Your safari today may be shared with other guests from your hotel and accompanied by an expert local tracker who will endeavour to help you have the best wildlife sightings possible. Conditions of the tracks around the park differ, depending on the time of year, but generally you should expect them to be bumpy and dusty.

Early morning Safari in Yala National Park: Early this morning set off for another jeep safari in the park, returning to your hotel in the mid-morning to have breakfast.
Time at leisure: After returning from your morning game drive you have the rest of the day at leisure to relax by the pool, stroll along the beach or enjoy a spa treatment.

Road journey to Weligama, via Dondra Head: Set off from your hotel, heading west along the south coast of the island towards the famous Dutch settlement of Galle, now one of Sri Lanka's largest cities. En route, pass through the sleepy coastal village of Tangalle and stop to visit the famous lighthouse at Dondra Head. Dondra Head is the southernmost point in the Indian sub-continent. The 160 foot British period lighthouse is located in a beautiful garden and is considered the highest lighthouse in Asia. It is 161 feet in height and contains 7 floors, 14 two-panel yellow colour windows and 196 steps to the top. All the building material including bricks, steel were imported from England. The lighthouse is still active and helps guide ships and boats which sail on the Indian Ocean. Over 250 ships are said to pass this area daily and although they now have GPS, most of them still use the signals beamed by the lighthouse. It also transmits radio wave signals to surrounding lighthouses in Sri Lanka. Between the Lighthouse and Antarctica lies nothing but 20,000km of empty ocean. On arrival, check-into your beach hotel, located a short distance outside Galle in a lovely beach area called Weligama. Your total driving time today is approximately 4 hours.

Morning Galle Fort walking tour: This morning set out to explore the colonial history of the Galle Fort. Experience the deep history of colonial Sri Lanka with a knowledgeable local who will take you a complete circuit around Galle Fort; which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, built in 1588 by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch and British respectively. Today, the Galle Fort is a vibrant and self-contained, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society that showcases an effortless balance of European and Sri Lankan culture.
Afternoon at leisure: After time to explore the fort and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (payable locally), you will be transferred back to your hotel to relax for the rest of the afternoon.
