Experience the quieter, more spiritual side of Bali on this comprehensive tour of the island's mountains, lakes and coastline. As you travel to each corner of the island there are many opportunities for walking, cycling and snorkelling for those who are more active. The tour starts in the artisan town of Ubud to gain a sense of the island's cultural heritage before travelling north to the rural community of Munduk in the mountains, and on to the fishing village of Pemuteran which faces the Bali Barat National Park and Menjangan Island in the far north west.
Continue to Lake Batur in central Bali to embark on a community backed trek to the villages of Muntigunung on the slopes of Mount Agung. After some time to explore the beaches, temples and rice terraces of eastern Bali, the tour finishes at a charming boutique hotel on Jimbaran Bay in the far south.

Meet & greet: Upon arrival at Denpasar airport, you will be welcomed to Indonesia by your private English-speaking guide, and then transferred to your hotel in Ubud - a drive of around 1 hour.

Morning at leisure: This morning is free to relax at your hotel, and explore the nearby town of Ubud.
Afternoon cultural tour of Ubud: Start this afternoon's cultural tour with a visit to Tohpati, which is known for batik products and continue to Celuk, the center of exquisite silver works and Mas, known for fine woodcarvings. Enter Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali with many fine art galleries, and a home to a score of local and foreign artists. One of them is Agung Rai Museum of Art which has an extensive collection of paintings by Balinese, Indonesian and foreign artists in classic balinese and contemporary styles. Afterwards, you can test your bargaining skill at Ubud market prior to a visit to Puri Saren Agung, whose royal family ruled Ubud from the late 1800's until 1917.

Road journey from Ubud to Munduk: This morning, depart by road for north Bali with sightseeing en route. The first stop is at the beautiful rice terraces of Jatiluwih where there is the option for a short walk through the fields. Further stops are recommended to visit the traditional fruits and flowers market at the village of Candi Kuning and the temple of Ulun Danu on side of Beratan Lake. Continue the journey past the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan to the small mountain village of Munduk.

Morning gentle trek: After breakfast this morning, there is the option of a 2 hours trek in and around Munduk. The area is very fertile and large plantations are found throughout. The walking trail leads through clove, cacao and coffee plantations with stunning views over the coastline of north Bali. There is also the chance to visit a waterfall in an area of rainforest.

Road journey from Pemuteran to Lake Batur: After breakfast this morning, set off for the picturesque village of Kintamani, located on the edge of Lake Batur.
Muntigunung community trek: Set off on a trek to the villages of Muntigunung, located to the north of Lake Batur. These villages are located on the intensely arid northern slopes of Bali's mountains with dramatic views of Mount Agung and the island of Lombok. A guide from the local community will meet you at the starting point of the trek, from which point the path ascends for around an hour to a viewpoint from where you can see the entire caldera and views of Bali's north coast. After a break for snacks and drinks the trail descends to the villages of Muntigunung in the arid foothills of the mountains, with dramatic views of the volcanic canyons. The locals in the vilages lead a harsh life due to an intense dry season which lasts 8 months. A Swiss backed NGO has set up a project to help the villagers by constructing 11 buildings with expansive roofs to collect and channel rainwater into specially designed tanks so locals can have access to water year round. These roofs also provide a place for the villagers to work, making handicrafts such as weaving an sculptures made from pumpkins. The project also oversees the production and processing of rosella tea and cashew nuts to ensure the people have an income and spend time in the villages so that their children can attend school. After visiting the projects depart by road to the north coast for lunch at a small hotel in Tembok.
Road journey from Tembok to Amed, via Tulamben: After a well-deserved lunch, depart by road to Amed. En route there is an optional stop at Tulamben to snorkel over the wreck of the Liberty, a WWII cargo ship which lies in shallow water around 50 metres from the shore.

Road journey to Sidemen: After breakfast this morning, your guide and driver will meet you for the short drive to Sidemen in eastern Bali.
Afternoon walking tour: This afternoon, you will be taken on a 3 hour trek in the famous rice terraces around Sidemen. The trail will take you across paddy fields, over water irrigation channels, through bamboo forests and plantations of coffee and clove. This is a fascinating trek for those who want to explore the stunning rice terraces, see local agriculture and the daily life of local people.

Road journey from Sidemen to Jimbaran Bay with sightseeing en route: After a leisurely breakfast, in the most delightful of settings surrounded by rice terraces, depart by road for south Bali. En route there is the chance to visit Kerta Gosa, or Hall of Justice, built in 18th century in Klungkung. It is beautifully laid out within a moat and provides an exquisite example of the Klungkung style of painting and architecture which can be seen in their ceiling murals.
