Train travel in Java

Java is littered with natural wonders and cultural highlights. However, as Indonesia's most populous island, its roads are notoriously clogged and road journeys can be frustratingly slow. Crossing the island by train is a fine alternative: often much quicker, and usually good fun too! Indonesian trains are modern, clean, and comfortable. Major towns and cities are linked by fast intercity services, such as those between Jakarta and Bandung, Yogyakarta and Semarang, and Semarang and Banyuwangi (for Ijen and crossing to Bali). As well convenience, train-travel also provides a window (literally!) on to the dramatic and ever-changing landscapes of Java.
