The Golden Triangle

Thailand's Golden Triangle is a beautifully scenic spot where two rivers converge and three countries meet. However the region also has a dark side and you will learn about this at the Hall of Opium - a museum that traces the history of opium through its historical, economic & sociopolitical implications. Later you will visit Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti by climbing 383 steps to top of hill to get great views over the Mekong River. You will also visit Wat Jedi Luang and the small museum nearby. In the afternoon continue your visit by longtail speedboat as you head upriver on the Mekong toward the middle of the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. Afterwards you may have a chance to cross into Laos for a brief visit as you make a stop at a riverside village.
