Luang Say Cruise

For those combining Laos with Northern Thailand, taking a 1 or 2 night cruise is a fascinating way to travel between these two countries.

The one night cruise goes between Luang Prabang and Huay Xai, at the Thai border, with an overnight stay at the Luang Say Lodge in Pakbeng en route. The Luang Say Lodge is a collection of comfortable Lao style villas made from solid teak and rosewood, each with panoramic views of the Mekong River and the mountains beyond. For those looking for a bit more adventure there are also two night crusies, which include a night at either the Kamu Lodge in Laos or the Lanjia Lodge in Thailand as well.

Along the way you will have the chance to see rural riverside life along the Mekong, and make stops to visit some minority villages, and also the Pak Ou Caves near Luang Prabang. These sacred Buddha caves, called Tham Ting & Tham Phoume, are home to numerous Buddha statues of varying shapes and sizes, and the site is regularly visited by pilgrims.

Lunch is served on board the boat, and dinner is included at the Lodge's riverfront restaurant in the evening. The journey can be done in either direction, and works very well before or after a stay in Chiang Rai in Thailand.
