Marvel at Datong's Hanging Monastery

Discover the Hanging Monastery near Datong. An amazing sight, the monastery clings to the side of Mt Hengshan, one of China’s five most sacred mountains, and was built some 1,400 years ago.  The monastery itself is unique as it combines elements from the three traditional Chinese religions: Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The complex has around forty halls and pavilions all built on cliffs which are over thirty-metres from the ground. The various halls and pavilions are connected by narrow walkways over sheer drops. Not for the faint of heart, but those who brave the height will be rewarded with possibly the most unique temple visit on offer in China.
