Cycle Xi'an's City Walls

The ancient walls of Xi'an date back to the Ming Dynasty and measure 13.7 kilometres in circumference, 12 metres in height, and 15 - 18 metres in thickness at their base. On each side of the wall there is an impressive gateway and a series of watchtowers that were used to protect the city from attack. Hiring bikes and spending a couple of hours cycling the Walls gives you a new perspective on the city and its history. Most sections of the wall have been restored, or even rebuilt, and their imposing height offers great views of the city as you cycle around.
