A tour through Marcos country

Ilocos Norte, in the far north of Luzon, has a strong association with the Marcos family. The birthplace of controversial President Ferdinand E. Marcos, the area has deep links with the former ruling dynasty, with several points of interest to be found throughout the region. First and foremost is the Marcos Mausoleum and Museum located in Batac. Visitors can view President Ferdinand Marcos’ remains, which is enclosed in a glass casket, up close. The neighbouring museum displays thousands of photos depicting the Marcos family through the years. Finish the tour at Malacanang of the North, the official residence of the former president and now a well-maintained museum. It stands on a high point overlooking the legendary Paoay lake. Both the exterior and the interior of the palace give a clear indication of the regal life of the former residents.
